A handover-ready design system isn't about the components. It's about the *rules* — the ones designers can't break without intent and engineers can't break by accident.
The four files we always ship
- Token export. Color, type, spacing as machine-readable JSON.
- Component spec. Every variant, every state, in Figma + code.
- Decision log. Why we picked what we picked, written for the next designer.
- Override map. Where the marketing team is allowed to ignore the system.
The fourth one is the one nobody else writes.
